Eyes Wide SHUT!

I believe I have made it aware that Keilana is NOT a good sleeper, partly due to personality, and probably a lot due to her spoiled sleeping habits early, early on in life. When a nap or bed time is mentioned she automatically responds with, "I don't want to take a nap!" or "I don't want to go to bed!" Well, on Wednesday, my little sleep fighter didn't have a chance to take a nap. After school we went to the library to check out some new books. After the library I took her to her Great-Granny's to play with her cousins and by the time we got home she was completely wiped out. I fed her dinner and to her dismay, mentioned the word bed time. She started to have a melt down but I redirected it with, "let's read your new libaray books!!". Well, that plan was grand--that meant she didn't have to go to bed. By the middle of the second book, she was out cold. She tried her hardest to keep them open, fluttering as she would attempt to look at the picture on the next page. I took her upstairs, put her to bed, and she woke up enough to stay in a sleep voice, eyes still closed, "I don't want to go to bed" *sigh* Just give it up already!!! This is our routine conversation of reminding her why we need to sleep.

Me: "Keilana, what happens if we don't get enough sleep?"
Keilana: "Our bodies get sick."
Me: "What happens if our bodies get sick?"
Keilana: "We have to go to the doctor."
Me: "Yup, and what does the doctor do?"
Keilana: "Looks at our throat and ears and gives us medicine."
Me: "That's right. Do you want to get sick and go to the doctor?"
Keilana: "No. I want to sleep."

Sometimes that works and will get her in bed without any refusal but for the most part, it's a battle we fight daily!
