It's a nice thought, but my Kayden eats apple after apple and still manages to get some sort of sickness. He's had congestion and light coughing for a couple of weeks, and then Sunday night he started running a fever. I had hoped that night it was a spontaneous fever, nothing to sound the alarms for. Boy, was I wrong!
The next morning, after coughing most of the night, he woke up with a deep, barking cough. I noticed by nap time that next day that his breathing was slightly labored and I could see that he was using his stomach muscles to breath. I was afraid that it was pneumonia but after some research on the internet, I concluded that he had croup. Yes, I am a self-diagnoser. Why pay money for an office visit and to see the doctor when all the end result will be is, "he has a virus, you just have to let it run it's course". Nuh, uh. I was paranoid Keilana's first year in life and every time she got a little something I would take her in and the only thing I have ever heard is, "it's a virus". Keilana has never been on antibiotics to this day. I usually give the sickness about 5 days to see how it goes and if there is no improvement, then off to the doctor we go.
I've never dealt with this sickness before but have heard that it is some nasty stuff. I'm SO glad to say that I now know first hand about croup [please note there is a hint of sarcasm there]. Of course he was extremely clingy to me and I did nothing but hold him for 2 days, and I was okay with that. However, I noticed as of yesterday that he was doing MUCH better so I tried to disconnect us from the hip. He played during the day, ate really well and even went without taking an afternoon nap. Nonetheless, by 5:00 pm, this is what happened:
He and Keilana play this game where Kayden is a puppy and he follows her around the house on all fours, barking like a dog. She'll give him "sprinkles" or pretend she is dispensing water from our refrigerator, feed him, put him on a "leash", aka, ribbon, belts, rope, or whatever resembles a leash. She does NOT put it around his neck, I taught her to tie it around his belly. Most of the time, however, she will tell him to lay down on his "bed", aka pillow, and will cover him up, telling him to go to sleep. Of course he doesn't--he'll typically lay for 2-3 minutes and off he goes. This time was a little different; he WAS tired and he DID fall asleep. He took about a 30 minute nap before she woke him up and right around the time Daddy got home from work for some play time.
The kids play really well together, and I'm very fortunate that they do, as of now. Each time we take Keilana to preschool, Kayden gets sad they we are leaving without Keilana. The first time he cried for about 10 minutes until I finally convinced him that we would come back to get her. This is her 3rd week back and now he'll just say her name 4 or 5 times as he points out the window and I tell him that we will come back to get her when school is over.
As far as being sick goes, 3 days/nights of humidity, Motrin and Tylenol, and a few breathing treatments, the fever has not returned for almost 48 hours but he still has the cough. At least it isn't deep but still persistent and keeps him restless at night.

My poor buddy! It has been hard with him being sick. You have done a good job takin care of him babe. A great mother!
i concur with jon. great job! so do you have a nebulizer now for the breathing treatments? how does he do with those? jefferson is doing really well with his unless he is in the hospital. and then he doesn't want anything to do with them. i hate when children are sick(especially when they're your own)you just want to take whatever they have and give it to yourself so they don't have to suffer or be in pain or whatever. i hope he continues to feel better. :)
