A Post About ME!

Imagine that, the blogger blogging about herself for once. So I'm REALLY getting into this whole photography bit. I've been studying and reading up on it the last couple of weeks and just this past weekend I took almost 1,000 pictures. Oh yes, I did. I don't think some people take that in their lifetime! I had my first wedding photo shoot on Saturday and shot about 500+, I'll get to that in just a minute . Then there was Easter to include so I added about 300 to the pot. The downfall to taking a lot of pictures is you have to delete a lot and filtering through them is very difficult! So many shots turned out cute or unique that it drives me nuts to have to delete them. I have to get better about that for sure. I cannot keep 150 pictures at every holiday or occasion--my photo library will grow at a tremendous rate. I believe I need to start thinking about investing into a rather large external memory.

So lets rewind to Monday of last week. I was looking at my blog and found a comment left by my friend to take maternity pictures and possibly newborn. I was shocked and nervous, but excited to try something different and new subjects! They are a totally cute family and photogenic so that should be a good time. Fast forward two days later to Wednesday when I received a message in facebook by another friend to take family pictures. She said, she liked my work and would love for me to take their family pictures. I thought to myself, wow, I'm just a beginner, a hobby for now but sure! Nothing better than expanding my portfolio.

Okay...keep fast forwarding two more days later to a quiet Friday night at home. Jon receives a phone call at 9:08pm by a girl in our ward. She asks to speak to me and so he hands the phone over. I hear a little stress and panic in her voice as she says, "Sis. Quan, I have a HUGE favor to ask of you." In a nut shell, her original photographer (another lady in our ward) cancelled on them that night (the night BEFORE her wedding) when they called to remind her and make sure she would be there. I'm not clear as to what had happened, I heard a few stories but nonetheless, she had no one with any photography experience to take her wedding pictures. I couldn't believe that she was asking me to do this based upon pictures she's seen that I've taken of my family. I studdered around in disbelief until I finally agreed to do it. I was NOT prepared with only 1 gig of memory card so off we went to good ole trusted Wal-Mart, open 24 hours. I arrived to the temple grounds early to set my camera settings appropriate for the weather condition (overcast) and to check to see if the ground was wet (we had major rain storms the night before). Fortunately all conditions were great and I got LOTS of great shots. I recently created a blog to post my work on: Photography by Nessa where you'll be able to view an example of the pictures I took.
Along with taking pictures on the side (and I hope the work keeps coming), I'm creating a one year birthday video montage, AND I have starting taking care of my neighbor's kids during the day. I've been contemplating seeking out for a job but hope that these are Heavenly Father's blessings in giving me work on the side using the talents he gave me. It feels good to contribute financially to the family, especially in this time of economic hardship.

That's awesome Nessa! I looked at your photography blog, I can't wait to see more. I love photography but haven't ever researched it or anything, just love taking pictures and looking at others talent. You might just have to do my wedding, or just something else I might need wonderful pictures taken of :)

HAPPY Birthday again to my little second-born, twenty something :)I'm glad you had such a good time with Mel and Jenn--what good friends they are!! Great photography!!! I'm so happy that you were able to have the wonderful opportunity to increase your skills and experience. Their wedding looked so beautiful. I am still amazed at the beauty of your work. It does look professional. I know as the word and proof of your talent gets out there, you will have more opportunities come your way. Keep up the good work girl. I am so proud of you! LOVE you.
